Interior Decorating Services for a Client Moving to a New Home

The client has moved, to the Comox Valley, without furniture and with a limited number of accessories.  The client is looking for vintage, new, and character pieces. The interior decorating project includes: new carpet selections, purchasing furniture and accessories as well as, furniture placement and set up of the client’s new home.

Interior Decorating

The goal of an interior decorating project is to select items to create a cohesive design.  The design should reflect the client’s personality and their vision for the space.

The design choices are also very dependent on what is available on the market and the budget that the client has.  The budget, for this decorating project, is between $17,000.00 and $20,000.00.  The decorating project is a collaborative undertaking with consultations and shopping trips with the client.  Our role is to provide guidance on purchasing items that will make the final design look consistent and all rooms look interconnected by style.

Design Plan

The client has a piece of rustic artwork that is a treasured gift from a family friend.  The artwork is the starting point for the design decisions that are made.  A combination of vintage, rustic, and antique pieces are mixed with transitional items to create interest and to fit with the client’s vision for the space.

Design Elements

A mix of wood, rattan/cane, metal, fabric, and upholstery are used to create visual appeal.  These elements are used to blend the different styles and to create a balance between materials used in the furniture and accessories.  The design materials are repeated in all areas of the home.  All items tie into one another and from one room to another.

Form, Texture, Pattern

A custom, curved sofa and love seat adds form and creates an architectural element to the space.

Throw cushions, area rugs, drapery panels, bedding, plants, and baskets create texture in different areas of the home.

Custom upholstery, used in two occasional chairs, adds a subtle pattern.  Artwork – rustic, carved, and painted; a metal piece over the fireplace; dining chair backs; and the metal rack in the eating area creates pattern throughout the home.

Interior Decorating – When all elements come together to make the room feel just right.

The interior decorating project has been completed and the home looks amazing.  The client loves her new home.
